Engro is the operating partner of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), Pakistan’s leading coal producer operating Pakistan’s first open-pit lignite mine in Block II of Tharparkar area in Sindh, Pakistan. With a current annual mining capacity of 7.6 million tons, this large-scale mining project is a collaboration with the Sindh Government under a public-private partnership model. This venture is pivotal for Pakistan’s energy security, leveraging Thar’s extensive 175 billion tons of lignite coal reserves to reduce reliance on imported energy and promote self-sufficiency.
